Sometimes a dream comes true. Although this dream has got an expiration date.
Do you remember my old post about Edison, the florentine bookstore in Piazza della Repubblica, closed last Fall?
There will be a restaurant in its place, another food trap for tourists, like the hundreds that already are at every corner of the historical center.
When I pass by its shuttered windows, I can’t keep myself from sighing. I can’t count how many hours I spent there, browsing books and sipping cappucinos, far from the crowds of tourist who pour
down the streets everyday.
Until something changed: from 12th of July until 15th of September 2013, there will be a temporary Edison, called “La piazza dei libri” in the same location, where writers will come and talk about their works in
a huge gazebo, with a reading area and shelves full of books ready for sale.
The former sales assistants and two florentine publishers: Mandragora and Edizioni Clichy, get the credit for that.
I went to the opening and I met many other readaholics like me. Everyone was touched. It’s a big satisfaction having back a place where you can feed your soul instead another place where you just feed your stomach.
If only our political leaders would realize that inspired people make a difference in this world…
All’inaugurazione ho incontrato tanti maniaci dei libri come me.
